We get it, taking the time to do an elaborate hairstyle on an average day just isn’t realistic, which is why you often depend on quick and easy hairstyles to get the job done. Sure, you may want to give yourself a full blowout and luscious, bouncy curls every single day, but getting a couple of extra minutes of sleep in the morning is honestly more important than looking like you just stepped out of the salon. That being said, you don’t have to give up all hope of having a good hair day altogether in the name of sleep. We’ve listed 7 of our favorite quick and easy hairstyles for when you only have a couple of minutes to spend on your hair in the morning.
MILKMAID BRAID
If you’ve got longer hair, this quick and easy look can make you look super put together without having put much effort into your hair at all. Once you finish brushing your hair, pull it back into a low ponytail at the base of the neck. Braid the ponytail and then secure the end with an elastic. Next, wrap the braid up, above the crown of your head and pin the end back into the base of the neck on the other side. This will create a braid crown, giving you a polished hairstyle in under five minutes.
EASY TOUSLED CURLS
One of the quickest ways to give yourself a full head of curls without — you know, having to actually go through the trouble of separating your hair by section and using a curling iron to get every last piece of your hair perfectly into place — is with this simple trick. Pull your hair back into a semi-low ponytail around the middle of your head. Once your curling iron is hot (don’t forget a heat protectant!), wrap half of your ponytail around the iron. Wait a couple of seconds and then release the iron before moving onto the other half of your ponytail. Once you’ve curled your hair in the ponytail, remove the elastic and let the curls fall. This is a super quick and easy way to curl your hair in just a few minutes.
CURL GEL
When your hair needs a break from the heat tools (we all do every now and then), put some curling crème into your hair while it’s still wet and then twist it into two low, twisted buns. Pin the buns back and let your hair air dry during your commute to … wherever it is you’re going. By the time you get to where you need to go your hair will have dried out a little bit. Remove the pins and let your hair fall, revealing effortlessly beachy waves with almost no work!
A TWISTED HALO
Once your hair is dry, separate the parts around your face from the rest of your hair. These should be about one inch sections. Twist those sections and pin them to the back of your head to create an easy twisted halo. This casual look can be done in just a couple of minutes and is a whole lot better than simply wearing your hair down for the day.
A TWISTED BUN
Notice a trend here? Twisted hairstyles are super easy and look put together, which makes them popular as a quick and easy hairstyle. To create a polished, twisted bun tie your hair up into a high ponytail. Then, take the ponytail and begin twisting it. Once it’s twisted, wrap it around the elastic and pin it back into itself. Stick a couple of pins around it to really hold it in, and then pull the edges of the bun gently to add volume. The twisted bun shouldn’t be too tightly twisted, otherwise it will look really small.
A VOLUMINOUS PONYTAIL
Add volume to a regular old ponytail by pulling it back into a high ponytail once it’s dry. Then, grab a bobby pin or small clawed hair clip and pin it to the bottom of the elastic underneath the ponytail. This will lift your ponytail to create more volume, making it look more styled than simply sticking your hair up and calling it good.
ADD LENGTH WITH A HALF PONY
This is a trick you’ll see a lot of celebrities rock if you really pay attention. Pull the top half of your hair back into a semi-high ponytail, making sure you’ve pulled back any hair that would otherwise hang over or around your ears. Leave just enough hair to make it look like your ponytail is extra-long, and then separate that hair to drape over each shoulder. Add to the illusion by making sure that your hair’s ends don’t expose the part. This will make your hair look longer without having to add extensions to your ponytail, and it can be done in a flash to create a sleek updo.
