A new hairstyle has the ability to breathe new life into you and give you a boost of confidence you didn’t know you could have. Spring is a time for change, and bringing that attitude into your hair will give you the excitement you need to get through the last couple of cold weeks until we can start warming up again. The following are some of the biggest spring hairstyles that experts have said we’ll see this spring based on what’s trending online and what we saw at New York Fashion Week.
1. SLICKED BACK
Remember Miley’s half slicked back, wavy side part look on this year’s Grammy’s red carpet that looked oh so professional, yet chic and stylish? The slicked back look was seen frequenting New York Fashion Week this year when it was used on runway shows for designers like Balmain, Tori Burch, Brandon Maxwell and Victoria Beckham, to name a few.
2. HEADBANDS
Headbands have always been a staple in fashion when it comes to popular spring hairstyles. We saw a lot of headbands on the runway this year at spring fashion shows around the world, but a popular trend was to integrate the headbands into a hairstyle in a new way. Some runways saw scarves braided into hair, while others simply integrated a bold headband into an updo. Some particularly memorable looks were the jour ne show, which saw large fabric headbands being used to cover the front of the hair, with gelled bangs and hair dispersed throughout.
3. FULL UPDOS & SIMPLE LOW BUNS
Everyone knows Ariana Grande made the high, sleek pony an icon of its own, proving that updos can be just as glam as romantic curls. The iconic ponytail isn’t the only glamorous updo on the horizon, though, as celebrity hairstylists are expecting voluminous ponytails to be one of the hottest spring hairstyles of the season. Aside from being convenient, since it always feels good to get your hair out of your face, a blown out ponytail is a cute way to dress up any athleisure or casual look.
4. FADED PASTELS & DARK NEONS
With brands like Overtone dominating the colored hair trend, the hottest spring hairstyles are—once again—going to be full of color. Festival season kicks off in March and April, which is when we can expect to see a lot of neutral pinks, soft blues, deep magentas and hazy purples appearing in hair all over the place. Celebrities like Khloe Kardashian recently rocked the faded pastel look with a nearly white version of the ever-popular pastel pink.
5. LOTS OF TEXTURE
It’s no secret that more women are embracing their natural hair texture in recent years. One look that seemed to pop up a lot on the runways this year was texture. Whether it be a high ponytail topped with messy curls such as in the Giorgio Armani show or the 80’s curls seen in the Escada S/S 19 show last September. Other companies, like Ryan Lo embraced natural hair by accessorizing it with pastel ribbons as headbands. Sleek, straight hair may have been all the rage of the early 2000’s but the 2010’s are all about embracing natural beauty with your hair—the curlier the better.
6. NATURAL COLORS
There is always one shade of any natural hair color that seems more popular than another at any given time. Take the golden, one-toned blonde that was popular in the early 2000’s for example. If you were to wear that today, someone might just gift you a bottle of purple shampoo to give a hint. The popular neutral tones on the horizon for spring hairstyles are copper hair, which saw a huge spike in search traffic on Pinterest in recent weeks. Soft, baby blonde with nearly white highlights will dominate Instagram feeds in the coming months, while creamy mocha browns will be popular among the brunettes. You’ll also see people embracing their natural greys in the future, because we’re all about natural beauty now.
