Hair hacks every lazy person should know

We all have those days where doing an elaborate hairstyle just sounds like way too much work. Most of the time, those are the days when you would just let your hair air dry and get over the fact that it’s going to be a bad hair day from the start. But it doesn’t have to be that way, you don’t have to settle for simply letting your hair lie flat and lifeless on your shoulders when you can instead use some simple hair hacks to have a great hair day in as little time as possible. These are also great for when you’re running a little late (we all love a few extra minutes of shut eye in the morning) or have other things on your mind. If you’ve ever got a big presentation at work and want to focus more on the work than your hair, these easy hair hacks will help you get out the door as quickly as possible without leaving you looking unkempt.

1. DRY SHAMPOO AT NIGHT

Sometimes it seems like putting in dry shampoo takes just as much time as actually shampooing your hair would take. If it weren’t for the fact that shampooing your hair too often can create a bunch of issues on its own—like stripping the color from your hair or contributing to split ends by drying your hair out too much—it would make sense to simply shampoo your hair everyday to keep it looking and feeling clean all the time. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case.

If you know you’re going to be pressed for time in the morning, take some time to put dry shampoo around your roots at night. Overnight, your hair will soak in the dry shampoo and help make it look cleaner by the time the morning roll around. Putting in the dry shampoo the night before will also contribute to helping your hair look more voluminous.

2. DO A HALF BRAID

Quick and easy hairstyles will save you a lot of time and effort while you’re getting ready in the morning. Luckily, the abundance of hair accessories and headbands on the fashion week runways this season signaled a return for things like barrettes and cute hair clips. If you’re feeling lazy in the morning, simply blow dry your hair and pin the top half of it back with a cute hair clip.

There’s no limit to what kinds of simple hairstyles you can do to look polished without having to do much work. Whether it be a messy half braid on the side of your head that you pin back with an embellished clip, or a half ponytail tucked back with a cute scrunchie or barrette, there’s a lot of easy ways to make it look like you put in more effort than you did.

3. AMP UP A REGULAR PONYTAIL

Wearing a regular ponytail into the office may seem out of place on its own. The look is generally reserved for the gym, and might earn you a couple of comments in a professional environment if it looks like all you did was whip your hair up into a hair tie and go. There are a couple of hair hacks that will take an average ponytail and make it look much more put together with very little effort, though. Try sticking two bobby pins underneath your ponytail by hooking them onto the bottom of the hair tie. This will add volume to the look and make it look far from casual. You can also achieve this look by hiding a butterfly clip underneath your ponytail. It will provide some added volume and allure to an otherwise lazy hairstyle.

4. TAME BABY HAIRS & FRIZZ

Updo’s can be tough if you have a lot of baby hairs around your temple that make your hair look frizzy and unkempt. This happens particularly with people that have natural hair—as thick, curly hair is also prone to breakage. Quickly tame these baby hairs by spraying hair spray onto the bristles of a toothbrush and combing them onto your head in any direction you’d like. The hair spray will add extra hold while the bristles of the toothbrush will smooth your hair, making it look shiny and sleek.

5. USE A BOAR BRISTLE BRUSH

It’s true, the type of hair brush you use can impact what it will look like and how healthy it is. For example, using a round bristle brush when blow drying your hair will give it the blowout look you get in a salon. Using a boar bristle brush will help decrease and tame frizz while leaving your hair feeling smooth and looking shinier. In the same way that a toothbrush will help tame small frizz around your face, a boar bristle brush will help tame any breakage that manages to stick out throughout the day. These brushes can be especially useful if you’re in a hurry and simply want to give your hair a silky look and get out the door.

6. UTILIZE PRODUCTS

One of the biggest hair hacks that can help your hair look great in little to no time is making sure that you’re using the right products for what you want. Instead of letting your hair air dry with no product in it, spray a wave spray from the middle of your hair to the ends and tousle it around while it’s still damp. This will give your hair beachy waves with little effort and give you a casual yet cute style for the day. Other products, like root lifting sprays or in-shower stylers will give your hair volume and shine without having to do much work. It’s the perfect hair hack if you’re feeling lazy or in a hurry.
