What is combination B hair?
Combination B hair has dry roots and oily ends.
If you have Combination B hair, you’re probably suffering from the following:
● An itchy scalp with dandruff
● Stringy, lifeless locks
This hair issue is actually quite easy to correct with the right know-how. Keep reading to learn more!
Why CAUSES dry roots with oily ends?
Maybe you’re familiar with this scenario: your hair has been looking limp and flat lately. In hopes of giving it a little boost, you style your hair with volumizing mousse or another volume-boosting product. But when you’re done styling your hair, it still looks lank and lifeless! Meanwhile, your scalp feels itchy and you might even have a few flakes here and there. What gives?
This is an all-too-common scenario for hair product lovers. The culprit? Product buildup.
When you don’t wash your hair properly, all those products you’re using can combine with the sebum and dirt on your scalp to create a scale that makes scalp feel itchy, dry, and flakey. Meanwhile, your ends are coated in layers of product, which weighs them down and makes them look greasy.
How to FIX dry roots with oily ends
The trick to regaining your lustrous, bouncy mane is to deep clean hair to buff away that scale and buildup. Here's how:
1. EXFOLIATE WITH BAKING SODA
Good news! The answer to your hair problems is probably already in your pantry. Baking soda can scrub away product buildup, leaving your scalp clean and flake-free.
To exfoliate with baking soda at home, mix one tablespoon of baking soda with your favorite shampoo to make a paste. Apply the mixture to your scalp, gently massaging into your roots with your fingertips to break up scale and buildup. Then wash and condition hair as usual.
2. TRY AN APPLE CIDER VINEGAR RINSE
Apple cider vinegar is another simple solution for clarifying the hair and scalp.
To make an apple cider vinegar rinse, first dilute one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in one cup of water. If the vinegar smell bothers you, add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil.
Shampoo and condition hair as usual, then rinse with the apple cider vinegar mixture. Finally, rinse hair again with cold water for shiny, lustrous locks.

3. LESS IS MORE
If you’re experiencing problems with product buildup, you’re probably using too much product when you style your hair.
When using serums and lotions, warm them up in your hands before applying them. This will help the product to spread more easily, and you won’t need to use as much. Use a light hand with hairspray and keep the bottle at least 8 inches away from your head to keep from getting too much product in any one area.
Not only will you avoid product buildup, but you’ll also save on hairstyling products!
4. ADJUST YOUR WASHING SCHEDULE
5. CLARIFY MONTHLY
If your hair starts to look limp again, use a clarifying shampoo to deep clean hair and remove buildup. Most hair types should aim for using a clarifying shampoo once per month.
If you have oily ends with dry roots, better hair may be just a wash away! We hope you’ll follow these tips to remove product buildup and enjoy more good hair days in the future.
