Do you need to blow dry right after you shower

It can be tempting to want to blow your hair dry as soon as you get out of the shower to help get yourself moving and out the door quickly, but there are big benefits to those who wait—especially when it comes to heat tools and your hair. Getting in good blow-drying habits may seem more time consuming, but they’ll actually save you a lot of time and money in the long run when you don’t have to head to the salon to fix the problems that you’ve caused. Whether you blow dry too wet or do things like ditch protective products and tools, here are a handful of easy ways to avoid damaging your hair by picking up good blow drying habits.

DON'T BLOW DRY STRAIGHT OUT OF THE SHOWER

Your hair is at its most vulnerable when it’s wet because the added water makes the hair follicle more porous, meaning it’s more susceptible to breakage. Avoid doing things like brushing your hair and using heat tools when your hair is wet because this is sure to guarantee damage. Instead, add a couple of products to your hair once you get out of the shower (such as leave-in conditioner and heat protectant) and begin the other parts of your routine before you grab the blow dryer. Your hair should be just a bit damp by the time you get into the styling tools, that way you can avoid damage and make sure your hair gets the most volume out of your blowout.

Waiting until your hair has dried mostly by air before you begin blowing it dry will not only prevent excess damage, but it will shorten the amount of time it takes to blow dry your hair in the first place. For anyone that has suffered early morning sweating from blowing their hair dry in the summer months knows that this is a dream come true. For that, you could also consider blow drying with cool air—avoiding more heat damage and unbearable heat in the warmer months.

SECTION YOUR HAIR

To get the most volume out of your home blowout, section your hair into no more than a few inches of hair per section and work with one at a time. This will assure that each part of your hair is getting the most out of your blow dryer, preventing it from looking flat and lifeless from blow drying too quickly or improperly. Working slowly will also help your hair keep its shine, something that often goes away with the use of heat styling tools.

USE HEAT PROTECTANTS

Back to the products you should put in your hair before you begin using any tools at all. When you use heat styling tools you expose your hair to damage that can come out in the form of dull, dry looking hair that may have volume but no shine or life in it. Prevent this by using heat protectant sprays or leave-in products that help increase shine, moisture, and health in your hair. This will help your hair by preventing damage while leaving it with a healthy shine. And, if you have salon colored hair, it can also help protect your hair from losing that expensive dye job. Luseta Beauty’s Argan Oil Heat Protectant can help restore shine and health with essential vitamins and nutrients in the Argan oil without exposing your hair to damage from heat tools.
